I am moving to the desert of Ethiopia to study baboons, and decided to get a western hat to protect me form the heat. I spent many many hours debating with myself over which hat to buy, and then which size (I'm not great with a tape measure). Living in New Zealand, they are not a common thing to come across, so I was buying blind. But all the hours paid off, the hat looks and feels incredible - exactly what I wanted. When it came to sizing, I wrote to sheplers and asked for advice on which of the sizes I got and luckily they recommended the larger size of what I was going to buy, as even going for the larger size the hat is still snug. Highly recommend the hat and sheplers for this one, and I'm not usually one to give positive reviews

Love all the bison series Stetsons. This is my third one. The bison felt mixture has a great durability to it, and is one of the more waterproof hats out there in the 4X family. Love the beautiful “Sandbelly” color and straight forward hat band with buckle. Easy to shape on the steamer if you want to change shape, but Stetson nails it near every time right out of box. Buy this hat y’all!

Absolutely love the color it was exactly what I was looking for. This hat wasn’t available in the store and I had to order it online. I was a little nervous, but the hat exceeded my expectations. Stetson is quality, and this hat is an example of it.

The hat is very well priced. If it fit properly I definitely would have kept it. The size was so far off. Every Stetson I own is a 6 7/8 so, I thought that was a safe size to go with. Turned out I probably needed a 6. The size is way off and I was not able to find a size chart in the website. I was more frustrated that it cost me nearly half of what I paid to ship it back. I've always loved Schneider and had fast reliable shipping and service. Now, I think twice about ordering.

The fit was dead on. This was my first cowboy hat in over 20 years. I wear it proudly every day as I walk my Golden Retriever through my neighborhood. I have receives a multitude of good comments. It is now easy to spot the 65 year old guy walking his dog every day. I am very happy with the purchase and bought another Stetson a week later. I guess that say how much I like it.

I had to order the hat twice. First time I ordered they sent the Mink color hat. I actually like the hat so i kept it and ordered another in the sand color. Even the tag on the Mink said Sand color. Hat is nice but the size chart runs a little high. I should wear a 7 1/4 according to the chart and my other hats. To get a good fit I have to order a 7 1/8 size hat.

Seems to fit well, a little loose but nothing some folded paper towels can not solve. Overall a very nice looking hat and durable. Stetson does not recommend protecting your hat with a Teflon spray but for this color I would serious consider it since rain drops will leave spots. Liked it so much I ordered the black one too! And most likely will get the brown one.

Was really looking for a beaver and Sheplers didn't have one or I couldn't find one. But ordered this hat instead. At this time it appears as good or better than beaver. Sizing is perfect.

Sheplers underrepresents this hat in my opinion. Steson's Xs go further in this hat than the Xs of its competitors. Simply a very handsome wearing hat inside and out. But that is Stetson for ya.

When it comes to felt hats you know you can save some money when buying wool felt as opposed to beaver felt. Most tend to settle for a wool hat from other companies and they are good for 1 time use like a wedding or a quince. But the Stetson 4x wool is miles ahead of any 3x wool from the competitors that tend to come very stiff, with loose felt fibers and tend to be stalked on-top of each other on racks at the store. I live by the saying “Buy nice or buy twice”. I highly recommend that if you are looking to get a cheap cowboy hat under $200 and of good quality that you look at this hat. $50-100 wool hats are usually made in other countries and don’t go through the same quality control they go through here. The Stetson 4x wool is proudly made in America, it looks great and holds up well when compared to companies like Justin, Ariat, Master Hatters, Cavenders, Cody James and many others.

Upon delivery of the hat I noticed some Black spots on several areas. I sent the hat back and received a replacement within ten days. The new hat was fine and overall I'm happy with the service. Bought the hat a couple of weeks ago and am delighted with the hat. My only concern was the fit. I wear a 7 1/4 and it is a little on the loose side. Not so much that a little help in the hat band won't fix. I would buy this type of hat again and the same size because I know that a 7 would be way to small.

Another great Stetson product. My only complaint is the size. I have worn 7 3/4 forever and know the size. This hat is small for that size. I was not satisfied with the fit, but considering the return cost, I kept the hat. Otherwise, a beautiful and quality product.

I am a size 56-57 depnding on brand of hat. I ordered a 7 1/4 and it came back a size 58. This is the second hat that the sizing chart has been incorrect with. These hats are very shallow in the peak so it sits high on your head ( not close to your ears) It is a lovely colour and shape. its very stiff so it should hold its shape well.

the hat is beautiful and durable, but the left brim is just bent lower than the other, the left crown dent is wider than the other. ther is an overall imbalance.but you have a great material

After steaming it with a teakettle and wearing it til it dried, the fit was perfect. I trimmed the brim to a little over 3.5 inches and sanded it; worked great. The felt is too stiff for my taste and only fits in one position on the head. There is no accommodation for a chin strap so it apparently is not intended for wind. I'm hoping it is a good rain and sun hat, but I suspect its main purpose is to look cowboy cool in a bar.

This is a "Dress Up" hat and it looks great!

After a little adjustment to narrow the hat and consequently lengthen the garment it fits perfectly and is comfortable. To those who complain of their hat being 1/2size too big 'Roll up some newspaper and insert inside the sweat band' Hey-presto perfect fit.

Ideal shape for me, fits a very little bit on the tight side, but that helps on windy days, well made for a 4X! It is very much in line with the Stetson brand and what it stands for.

Hat had multiple defects, about 3/16 in size, in the felt with the surface brushed over, but still with noticeable dark spots visible. One was right in the front of the hat, very visible, others were clearly visible. Hat should not have gotten out of the factory unless clearly marked as second quality. If the hat were a dark color the defects might not be as noticeable, but the hat isn't dark. I'm not happy.

I like this hat -- my first Stetson. However after three uses during the evening hours, I noticed the interior banding of the hat, which rests upon my head, has dislodged from the interior base of the hat. I am bald, so wet hair is not an issue here. Also, I do not sweat excessively from my bald scalp. I am extremely disappointed with the poor interior construction and craftsmanship of the hat.

Ok so first let’s say this, Stetson is known for making great hats and that they do. I do like their dress shirts as they are high quality and very well made, a little pricey but worth the money. Now this specific hat it is wool felt, they claim it has Buffalo/Bison fur in it. How can we prove that? we can’t so we have to take their word for it. The hat is lined on the inside, it has a leather sweat band, the hat band it is matching to the color of the hat with a nice buckle. The hat band it is partly glued and stitched not hard to get off in case you would like to exchange it. It is a 4X rating hat meaning it is not top of the line it more on the entry level. It is a good beginner hat if it’s your first felt hat or if you want a good quality beater felt hat. The felt is kind of coarse it is not smooth like beaver and higher X rated hats. I would consider this hat a daily hat or a semi formal/date hat. They claim it is water repellent I haven’t tried it yet. The price point well, you are paying for a Stetson as you can get less expensive wool felt hats. This runs around $160 but it is good quality and the biggest thing for me was the fit, it feels really comfortable, I have several hats and tried other hats but the way this one fits it is my favorite. I liked it so much when my wife got me the chocolate brown and I had to get this sand/silver belly color and I am also getting the black one soon. That should tell you how much I liked the hat. We are getting into the warmer season where I live. The straw and palm leaf season is getting here but the felt hat can still be worn at night during an event or more formal occasion. 5 stars for quality and fit, 4 stars for price(it is wool)

This is my first Stetson and I love it. The staff at Boot Barn was amazing . They made sure the hat fit, and cleaned it, shaped it to my liking.

Nice hat however they installed stickers on inside that removed the leather when taken off, customer service did not even offer a solution

I was a bit dubious about buying my 1st proper "Cowboy hat." online but the Shelpers guide was bang on accurate. The hat itself was everything I hoped it would be a manufactured with care and attention in the States. The hat looks great and well worth the extra dollars for the real deal. Like all Cowboy hats if you're riding you want to make sure it's jammed down tight on your head because it's fairly solid and catches the wind.

We bought this Stetson and I'm glad we did, it was exactly what we wanted and great price.
