The best thing I like about this boot. Soon as you put them on feels like they was made for you. The only thing is the metal tubes for the string will cut into them.

I believe my Danner Recurves will provide my needs just as well.

Traction is good, actually would prefer a Vibram sole. Too early to tell if it will last as long. The weight of the boots are just right. I bought the EE width and I have not had a problem with break-in. The Vital is still a little narrow and rubs the lateral aspect of my feet right near my little toe joint, where the upper is stitched (where the leather wrap from the side and front come together) . Other than that the boot is great, an awesome value and am sure it will be fine with more breaking in.

I bought previous pair in normal width and was very tight and bought another pair in a wide and seems just as narrow i walk decent amount at work and these boots got very hot even in cooler temperatures. After a break period thought they would help but still tight around toe section

had feet size measured, ordered that size, but the shoes are to tight , the sizing of the shoe is smaller than normal. too tight on feet. the socks are great, but the shoe size is not . need to try on instead of ordering

I haven’t had time to use them much but they look and fit great. I’d take these over Merrels any day.

Well built, comfortable and overall pretty happy. My only concern is how hot they get. I live in SE North Carolina and the boots are hot on my feet when its warm outside. Other than that I really like the boots.

Perfect fit, light weight, flexible and tough as nails. The Vital Trail 5 is what a hiking boot is suppose to be.

Extremely comfortable. I got mine in a wide width and it is perfect. It also has very good ankle support.

Very satisfied so far. They broke in quickly and are light weight. I hike with a hiking group every week in the North Georgia Mountains and have worn them for a month now. No blisters or problems. Many in my group prefer hiking shoes, but I like the additional ankle support. Good product, workmanship good. I am a Veteran and don’t mind them being made in Vietnam, anywhere but China.

Could use improvement on bottom for better traction.

I find these boots to be great for hiking. Great ankle support and comfortable to wear. Workmanship is so much better then some of the more expensive other brands.

Tight fitting boots. Make sure you up-size if you like loose fitting boots. Otherwise, a great boot

One of the pair of boots was missing their laces. I have bought numerous pairs in the past and never did the boots not have laces. Other than that I do love the boot. I use them for walking.

Fit is much too tight, and the material does not give like leather to provide stretch and molding to the foot.

Comfortable durable everything a man could ask for in a boot

I have been looking for new hiking boots for the last year, and never considered Danner Boots. After three surgery's on my feet. Danner Boots have been great and my feet have been feeling the best they have in a long time.

Fit great and keep my feet dry after spraying. Big test is a 3 day backpacking trip I got them for. They broke in easily.

These boots just don’t seem to be up to the normal Danner standard. I have 2 pairs of hunting boots which I absolutely love in size 10–when I got the vitals, had to return/exchange the 10s for a 9.5. They look nice but as I wore them the first time, I noticed there’s a very hard piece on the back inside of the lid seam that rubs/pushes against my ankles and hurts like a b****! Not sure why they would have designed them like that, makes no sense. Pretty disappointed in Danner.

Great boot a bit tight in the toe box but overall great boot

My second pair. I still in 5 years haven’t wore out the first. Other than some loss of waterproofing they are by far the best hiker type boot I’ve ever had. Not lightly used ever.

They are a little tight for being size 14. But the quality is great. They are comfortable still. I have a thin foot so I really don't understand why these boots are tight on me. I have put around 44 miles on them and they are breaking in better, but I would have liked them to have more room in them to accommodate arch support inserts. Next time I will try size 15.

Only one concern: the finger loop above the heel is too large and too floppy and is a safety hazard if exposed, such as wearing shorts. I have been tripped twice now while changing foot positions moving a foot in a crossover move with foot going behind opposite ankle shoelace hook caught in heel loop tripping me. Wasn’t sure what happened the first time but when it happened again with opposite side I figured out what caused it. I cut off both loops after the second time. Both instances happened on level ground, thank God. If I’d been hiking and traversing up or down a hill or elevation change it could’ve been much worse.

This is my second pair of this model. The first pair fit great out of the box. The second pair took some break-in and the left one still is a bit narrow. Overall a good boot. I just wore them for a European tour where we averaged 15,000 steps a day on cobblestones, and the boots did pretty well.

Actually a very nice and well built boot. Only problem is one is applying pressure to the inside ankle bone. But I have wide feet. Can be fixed.

Fit well and felt great right out of the box. Wear them as every day and as walking boots. Excellent product.

Bottom eyes are a pain to get the laces locked in but other than that great boot break in easy too which is a plus !

Had to order wides and a size bigger than I normally wear.

I Enjoy the appearance and the material. I like the height of the boot. It just feels a little narrow even for a wide. I probably just need a wider toe box.

Overall decent boot. I used them to hike in the Rockies, feet got a little sore by day 3. Overall pleased with the boots, I will have to add better soles if I want to hike again.

Very disappointed with these. They squeak when walking, even months after the fact. The quality of the leather is not near as good as your other boots. I’ve loved my other Danner boots so much I’ve had you resole them. The handcrafted boots made in Portland are awesome. These not so much. They don’t wear well and are just uncomfortable.

Only complaint is that the bottom side hook went through the lace 3 times. Amazing boots other than that.

The boot overall is a nice boot, but for the price you pay it comes with rock hard soles, and they do not breathe good for a light boot. Besides that they’re a nice light boot.

To start I wear Danner for work and hunt and hike for many years . Many different styles. Vital fit is awesome but , sorry , Danner Dry has changed . My socks are wet / soaked when I take them off . Two pair High ground , pull them off , dry . 4 pair trail treck , great , wish I could get another pair . I’m not going to count on Danner Dry . Wish I could try on a pair of the USA made boots before I send the money . Road trip to Portland sounds good .

Loving these boots. Definitely taking more time to break them in but thats part of the fun! Would/might buy them again.

I like everything about them, except for the over flexibly in the sole near the toe of the boot. I would like to see a more ridged boot that's still as light wait and easy to use.

My guess is that I’m not the typical Danner buyer since I spend most of my day in a wheelchair. However, I can manage short distances using forearm crutches and typically wearing leg braces, which are uncomfortable, awkward, and very expensive. The Vital Trail 5” gives me great ankle support in a lightweight, comfortable, confidence inspiring package that allows me to forgo the leg braces for short periods of time. I’ll never do trail walking, but to stand with my wife and walk a few yards with her, to me is priceless - these shoes allow that to be done in comfort and confidence given the traction afforded by the soles. As for looks, that is a distant secondary consideration for me, but these boots do look very nice. They are seriously well made and let others know you are sporting some quality footwear without screaming for attention.

Pleased with these boots so far - I purchased them as for trail building and they are comfortable, light and true to size. They have held up well so far for bush whacking and trail work and I appreciate the taller height compared to some other boots - keeps the chainsaw shavings from filling my boots!

Was looking for something to work in but also hike in and these are great! I wish they were a tad more breathable but i get hot feet no matter what!

These are comfortable boots with plenty of padding around the ankle. There's also very good room in the toe box; I have crooked toes that need more height than usual. Two minor peeves: 1) the lace hooks have a narrow opening so it can take several tries to get the lace into the slot and 2) the boots come out of the box somewhat stiff, so need a week or two to soften up.

Craftsmanship and durability are what keeps me coming back to Danner boots. I have had excellent service from their boots in the past and these new boots appear to be another fine example of the same.

These are awesome boots. I ordered One size up and they are perfect. Breaking in nicely. Would buy again.

Ive had the boots on some good hikes on the AT in Vermont. Very comfortable. Break in has been painless. Hopefully they last. Time will tell

I got these boots primarily for my job. I'm a home inspector so I do a lot of walking around, bend down, kneeling, and crawling under homes. I was little skeptical that the material on the toe would hold up but it's been about 4 months of crawlspaces and they still look new. These boots are very comfortable, light weight, and are holding up so far. I haven't taken them on a hike yet, but know they will be perfect for that. My only slight complaint is that the insoles they came with are very thin. I had to change them out with something thicker. But other than that they great boots for a great price. Way better than I was hoping for. I think I may be a Danner wearer for life now.

I buy a lot of Danners so I know what size normally fits me but for these boots they run very narrow. I would go probably at least one size bigger however the EE are still not wide

Some of the best everyday boots I've ever owned. Comfortable and great traction on all surfaces.

Vital Trail 5” is a great boot. I have been wearing them over the last week and they are breaking in nicely. Traction is good on loose trail small rock. They are true fit. If you’re thinking of using a thicker sock I would recommend 1/2 size up. It’s warming up here in PA and a thin to medium sock is working well during the break in. I plan on putting at least 100 miles on over the next month. Will see how they hold up but so far very pleased with the fit, comfortability and construction .

Got the olive color boots. Fit really well. Comfortable. Great look. You won’t be disappointed.

Good looking boot. Seems to run big. Thought at first it was just due to needing broken in. But seems like 1/2 size bigger than expected
