Real Southern Wedding: Love on the Beach
When my friend Lauren called to tell me she had set a wedding date and it was going to be in Rosemary Beach, Florida, I didn’t waste a second looking up flights for the occasion. Selfishly, I was looking forward to a few days at the beach with my favorite people, making even more memories in a town we already hold close to our hearts (don’t all Southerners spring break in Destin?) and I knew this wedding would be absolutely fabulous. Lauren is not only stylish and Barbie’s look-a-like, but she’s one of the most genuinely fun people you could ever know. There was no way I was going to miss her wedding to her Southern-born and bred, former University of Tennessee football playing fiance, Casey.
For a destination wedding at the beach, it was still uniquely Southern and very true to the bride and groom’s roots. Their was a lot of baggo played on the beach the day before the wedding and a lot of interesting conversations about SEC football. The day before playlist was full of country songs and the groomsmen even got boots from Casey as their gift!
Often, destination weddings cause the bride and groom to stray away from a number of wedding traditions, but not Lauren and Casey! They had full wedding parties with real bridesmaid dresses and suits for the groomsmen.
After the beach ceremony, the wedding party and guests dined on classic southern food staples: fried chicken, pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, and one divine wedding cake. Following dinner the bride and groom danced their first dance to George Strait’s “Give It All We Got Tonight.” Guests joined the happy couple on the dance floor well into the evening and throughout the night chants of “Rocky Top,” “War Eagle,” and “Woo Pig Sooie,” could be heard for miles around.
