Country Music Buzz
It seems like every week is a big week in country music. And that’s the way we like it! Here’s our weekly recap of everything (or a lot of) that happened this week.
Garth Brook’s Big Announcement: Mr. Brooks sure has been busy! He has signed a new record deal with Sony Music (same as Elvis!) and plans on releasing a new album soon. Don’t worry, he ensured his fans that none of his songs would be “bro-country” or “hick-hop.”
Sheryl Crow’s New Video features Johnny Cash: Sheryl Crow isn’t the only superstar in her new video for “Redemption Song.” Her video features clips of Mr. Cash from the ’70s alternating verses with Sheryl throughout the song. Crow originally wrote the song in 1995 and Cash found it inspiring and covered “Redemption Song” a few years later.
Summer’s Hottest Acts Perform at “CMA Music Festival” on August 5: Hosted by Little Big Town, the “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” will air on August 5 and features country favorites such as Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Hunter Hayes, Brad Paisley, and The Band Perry. This will be the 10th festival and chronicles a 4-day concert series and shindig that occurred in June, you won’t want to miss it!
Exclusive Access at the Willie Nelson and Allison Krauss concert: Country Outfitter got to spend the evening with a couple of legends (and one of the most talented singer/songwriters out there) a few nights ago as Willie Nelson was joined at our local, Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion (lovingly called “The AMP”), by Jason Isbell and Alison Krauss (and Union Station) for a perfect summer evening. We have pictures that you will only find here!
Taylor Swift writes a meaningful op-ed: Taylor Swift once again proved that the pen is mightier than the sword (though I’ve never seen her fight with a sword) and took her writing abilities all the way to the Wall Street Journal, where she penned an op-ed titled, “The Future of Music is a Love Story.” In it she discusses the future of music and what she sees as her place in that future.
Florida Georgia Line releases a new single called “Dirt”: The single called “Dirt” has the familiar Florida Georgia Line sound you’ve grown to know and love, but is a much slower and nostalgic look at the good life. Of course, of course, there’s mention of a “summer time smile” and drinking whiskey in a field. However, this one also talks about the possibility of settling down and building a house with a picket fence in that field where they have had so many parties. They also took the new song to perform on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon earlier this week.
And that’s a wrap-up of all of the exciting things happening in country music this week! Have a good weekend!
