Everyone’s favorite American Idol alum, Danny Gokey, is engaged! The country crooner is set to marry Leyicet Peralta in late January. It’s nice to see Danny find love again; he lost his first wife, Sophia Gokey, three years ago when she died from complications due to surgery to treat congenital heart disease.

Since then, Danny has created Sophia’s Heart Foundation. The non-profit organization was started in his wife’s honor and not only provides housing for homeless families, but also GED tutoring, job counseling, life coaching, and after-school music and arts programs for children. A message on Danny’s site reads: “He is thrilled to have found Leyicet who also shares his passion and desire to help children and families in need. Accordingly, Danny & Leyicet have requested that their wedding gifts all be in the form of a donation to Sophia’s Heart.”

“Our vision at Sophia’s Heart includes programs to house and restore the lives of the economically challenged and families that have been displaced from their homes due to unfortunate circumstances,” Danny stated at the grand opening of the Nashville facility. “This might include children and families who have been touched by poverty, sickness, disease, broken families and broken dreams … Our goal is to not just provide them housing but give them programs that help them to return as a viable part of the community.”

Danny’s Sophia’s Heart Foundation website also gave a shout out to fans: “We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us. It is our desire to see homeless children and families be kept together and lifted back on their feet through the help of Sophia’s Heart. We love and appreciate you all.”
