If you’re a cowboy, or if you just love watching them, then there’s nothing more fun than attending a rodeo. Across America, rodeo events happen each year, where horses and livestock lovers can watch live rodeo shows and also take part in activities celebrating agriculture and animals. Want to know more about some of the best rodeo events that happen each year? Here is a list of six of America’s best annual rodeo events.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Texas is the home of the cowboy, so it’s no surprise that the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the best rodeo events in the country. The Houston Rodeo happens every year in March, and it features a plethora of events, including a downtown rodeo parade, a horticulture show, a ladies’ night out, and even a horse show. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo lasts for three weeks, so you can enjoy nearly a month of fun and thrills.
Prescott Frontier Days & World’s Oldest Rodeo
The longest running rodeo takes place every year in Prescott, Arizona, and that’s why it’s officially named “The World’s Oldest Rodeo.” This year marks the 127th annual event, where you can come out and watch eight rodeo performances, as well as take part in some special Frontier Days events (a rodeo dance, parade, church service, and more). They’ve perfected the art of rodeo here, so if you love a rodeo show, you won’t want to miss it.
If you love the Southwest, you’ll love the Reno Rodeo, which takes place in the heart of Nevada. Each summer, people gather to watch rodeo events, as well as cattle drives, parades, mutton shows, and more. The Reno rodeo takes place over more than a week in the summertime, so you can enjoy day after day of rodeo fun.
The Annual American Royal
The Annual American Royal has been held in Kansas City since 1899, and over the years it has become one of the most beloved rodeo events in the country. The Annual American Royal includes a rodeo, but the event is so much more than that. In fact, the event is held to celebrate Missouri’s rich agricultural history in general. Come to the event for a barbecue contest, a youth rodeo, a ProRodeo, and more. The Annual American Royal takes place in the heartland of the country, so it draws livestock lovers from all over the United States
Want to go to the southernmost rodeo in the U.S.? Then head to the Homestead Rodeo, which has taken place for 65 years in Homestead, Florida. Come to the Sunshine State and watch some rodeo shows, or come to attend the contest for rodeo queen. The Homestead Rodeo also has a competition for Little Miss and Little Mister Rodeo, so your kids will love watching it, too.
Way out west in beautiful Estes, Colorado, is the Rooftop Rodeo, where rodeo events take place over the course of a week every July. Head on out to the Rooftop Rodeo to see pro rodeo events in the shadow of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. You can also watch Mutton Bustin’, as well as Barrel Races – and you can take a behind the chutes tour. The Rooftop Rodeo combines all that’s best about the West into one weeklong rodeo event.
